Meet Stefanie Schori A.K.A "JANE"! xo
In Steff's words....
About 2 years ago, I got curious about mountain biking as my boyfriend is very into it and I really wanted to see him also during summer time. Lol...So, I gave it try on one of his bikes AND... hated it.
I was so overwhelmed with everything shifting, breaking, roots, rocks, all of it. He was the most patient coach, but couldn’t help me to like it any better and Winter came around, so that the topic was tabled for a while.
In Spring 2017 I decided to give it another try with a ‘Learn to Mountain bike - Women class’ from REI. They provided bikes for the class as well and it turns out when you sit on a bike which fits you and you like, it is a total different story. It also turned out, I wasn’t too bad of a beginner compared to other women who just started with it. After that experience I started to look for women mountain bike events with clinics and guided ride, so that I was able to get more comfortable.
In June 2017 I bought my first own bike, my Specialized Stumpjumper and love it so much now. August that year Nemba (New England mountain bike association) had its first ever women summit in East Burke at Kingdom Trail in VT, where I went all by myself and met so many rad women from around Boston.
After the event we wanted to stay in touch and my friend Karin ended up creating the Facebook group (Wicked Sistas of the East) for us, so that we had a place to keep the dialogue going and organize rides. Unfortunately she had to move away beginning of the year, so I try to keep the dialogue going and motivate female beginners to come out and play with me. I love getting on the trail with beginners and make them more comfortable as ride leader as I was in that same situation just the year before and had a hard time to find groups and people to ride with.
Next to that I still work on my own skills and challenges and want to ride my first mtb cross country race in September to see if I like the challenge. But I have a feeling I will love it.
I love being part of the mountain bike community and try to share the love every day possible. :)
