My Favorite Women's MTB Shorts For Winter Riding

If you're anything like me you switch up your mountain bike shorts based on the season.

I have bike shorts I prefer to wear in the spring and fall when the conditions are wetter and cooler versus the summer when it's hotter and dryer.

Generally, when the temps drop and mud puddles start forming, I reach for longer, heavier shorts for extra coverage. And darker in color so I don't risk staining my lighter colored shorts.

Here's a list of my four favorite women's mtb shorts for winter riding.

My Favorite Mountain Bike Shorts For Fall And Winter Riding

I love these shorts because they are made with breathable nylon and have a weatherproof coating. I can wear them on light to medium rainy days and stay warm and dry.

Since it gets so muddy here in Squamish, BC I generally wear the darker color so I don't have to worry about permanent mud stains.

The Freels are also a nice length at 12" so there's never a gap between my shorts and knee pads. If you're looking for some super comfortable and versatile mtb shorts with tons of stretch that you can wear all year round, snag yourself a pair of Freels.

The Flow mountain bike shorts are awesome for fall, winter and spring riding. For starters, I love the 13" inseam. I never worry about thigh exposure between my knee pads and shorts.

They're a heavier material but still have lots of give to them. The color is awesome and looks fantastic for photo ops in the fall colors or winter snow!

And they have two giant thigh pockets so you can easily lose the extra weight of a backpack or hip pack.

I've found these shorts hold up super well in wet conditions, too. And if you're not into red, these also come in solid black.

While the Naveah Camo shorts by Zoic are more of a mid-weight short, I chose these ones because they're pretty waterproof and they wash up well.

I've worn them in some gnarly conditions and have never regretted it. Plus, I freaking love camo!

They also have nice big thigh pockets to carry extra stuff if you don't want the extra weight of a hydration pack. Throw your water bottle in a cage and keep your bike tools in the deep thigh pockets.

They are a bit shorter at 11" but I love them none-the-less.

These shorts come in a few great color options if green camo isn't your thing. Check 'em out below.

The Gravity Shorts by DHaRCO are another great option if you like nylon like I do for inclement weather.

I've worn these mountain bike shorts all winter long and they hold up fantastically. I do go one size up from what I might wear in the summer so they're a little looser and I can fit heavier tights under if I want.

The 12" inseam is perfect for the cool weather and the DWR coating is awesome for wet, muddy or snowy days. I also like that these shorts are made with Blue Sign approved fabric, meaning they use less chemicals and water during production.

The ONLY thing these shorts are missing for me is a thigh pocket, but I make up for it by wearing a jacket with pockets or carrying my 1L hip pack.
